Barbara is a Vice President of Nursing with Surgical Directions. She has over 25 years of experience in healthcare, specifically in perioperative and procedural area care management, leadership, organizational and business development, policy formulation, communications, and financing.
For ten years, Barbara served as the Director of Perioperative Services at a 501-bed not-for-profit acute care and trauma medical center; a 367-bed teaching hospital; and a for-profit 288-bed community hospital. As a perioperative consultant, she has facilitated and implemented process-improvement and cost-savings initiatives in facilities including one of the largest Level 1 trauma centers in the South, one of the largest medical centers in the West and an 18-hospital system on the East Coast.
Barbara has a thorough knowledge of surgical services and ancillary operations for the delivery of high-quality and efficient health care services. She has coordinated activities in the operating room, cardiovascular OR, post-anesthesia care unit, ASC, GI lab, pain management clinic and infusion clinic. Barbara is also an expert in hemodialysis, interventional invasive radiology, anesthesia services, central sterile processing and perioperative/procedural materials management. She has demonstrated experience and a proven record of success managing perioperative efficiency, supply chain expenses, education, physician relations, patient throughput and quality.
Barbara is a member of the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). She maintains membership in the Leadership Specialty Assemblies through AORN and serves as a member of the AORN Journal peer review panel.
