0:08 Artificial intelligence is going to be an important factor in how healthcare is delivered.

0:14 And it’s one of those – it’s not a trend. It is a new way to process information and to make predictions about the future. And it should not be ignored. But how do you use it?

0:28 And there are thousands of AI companies now that are offering solutions within healthcare, and within surgery. And so it’s important to understand what’s going on within AI.

0:41 Play around with it yourself. With things like ChatGPT or whatever, just to familiarize yourself with the technology, and then think through the applications.

0:51 With videos now and how we’re looking at heat sensors. And video within surgery, we can design–there’s a lot of solutions out there that can help make surgery safer, that can help make it more efficient.

1:06 You can use that artificial intelligence to think about predicting the future of your scheduling. This is something that Merlin is working on,in terms of how you should schedule your cases. Not based on what is scheduled, but what actually is likely to happen at 99-95% probability.

1:28 And so AI is going to make healthcare a little safer. I think, a little more structured, because we’ll have smart predictions. It’s not going to take away the need for a physician- there’s some thoughts that AI is just going to diagnose each patient–I think it will help. It can be a checkpoint.

1:53 We are dramatically understaffed, under-resourced in some healthcare specialties, and can AI help to supplement that? Because we’re not at the point where we have too many people that are looking for jobs, we need something to supplement the people that we have in healthcare so that they can do what they need to be top of license, but they have the comfort and confidence that there’s a backup.

2:21 There’s a way to check, am I doing this right? Does this diagnosis feel right based on the symptoms that I’m seeing? Is this surgery the right approach to take with this patient? And AI can help to validate some of those decisions.
