Driving ROI through Procedural Services Transformation
In this case study, a 450+ bed acute care hospital in the Southeast engaged Surgical Directions to transform its perioperative services. Through the establishment of a surgical services executive committee and the formation of six performance improvement teams focused on specific aspects of the perioperative workflow, the hospital was able to make significant improvements in a short period of time. These improvements included a 10% increase in primetime utilization of the operating rooms, a 19% increase in first case on-time starts, and increased access to the operating rooms for surgeons. Additionally, the transformation project resulted in elevated staff engagement and an identified ROI opportunity of $19 million over 5 years. This case study highlights the importance of a well-functioning governance committee and empowered performance improvement teams armed with accurate data in driving successful operational and financial outcomes in healthcare organizations.
